Questions

Does anyone ever get their entire March Madness bracket right? The odds just seem astronomical.

Who is still watching anything with Rosie O'Donnell in it?

Why is our number system based on 10's? Wouldn't 12 be more convenient since it is also divisible by 3 and 4?

Why haven't we moved away from the qwerty keyboard?

Why is popular sentiment so pessimistic about marriage when nearly half of all marriages go the distance?

Does something inherent in politics encourage infidelity?

Does the counterculture popularized in the 60's cost the world in overall productivity since it makes it "cool" to do self destructive, sometimes stupid things, or does it aid productivity by emphasizing non-conformity and innovation?

Is Tom Cruise really as crazy as he seems to be? Is it a result of his fame, or did that kind of narcissism help make him famous?

At what point does demographic profiling turn into bias?

In the afterlife, will I get to find out whether or not the Spurs series last year was fairly officiated?

Do black people think Marg and I are pretentious when they find out that we named our little white boy Booker?

When the earth regains its paradisaical glory, what will the topography be like? Will Pangea be reformed? Will the Grand Canyon still be there? What time-frame of the earth's existence will it resemble?

Does anyone else find themselves liking Ryan Secrest the more the Soup makes fun of him?

Shouldn't I be doing homework right now?

Some answers:

Rosie who?

There is a minor push for a Duodecimal system but it's not terribly likely to catch on. Yeah, base 12 makes a ton more sense than base 10 but base 10 is pretty well embedded at this point. I once read a time-travel story where the hero went back to mideval Poland and started a base 12 system and that gave the region an advantage economically. Makes sense, but it really would take time-travel to make it viable now.

Qwerty continues for the same reason. Retraining all those professional typists would suck. There's actually a simplified keyboard layout that is supported in pretty much all operating systems as an alternate option. I know some programmers who use it. Once you've retrained yourself, touch typing is touch typing regardless of whether "A" is the left pinky finger or... the... uh... left pinky finger...

Marriage pessimism is worse than that--if you remove repeat failures, the numbers move to something like only a quarter of marriages end in divorce. In other words, you're more likely to be divorced if you've been divorced before. Which makes sense if you think about it.

I once developed a theory of politics that indicates that successful politicians are either stupid or corrupt. It has to do with donations for access. Think about it: you'd only donate money to a politician if you thought your donation would make a difference. Yeah, there are altruistic supporters, but they're much rarer than "investors". And the only way that money for access donations make "investment" sense is if your politician is corrupt enough for the access to influence them or stupid enough that they believe the last thing they heard. This explains both Hatch and Clinton. If the market selects policians based on corruption or stupidity, it makes sense that politicians are more prone to infidelity as both stupid and corrupt will be co-occurant with infidelity.

Gut feel on the 60s is that we'd be much better off without it. Non-conformity and innovation have been features of a market economy since way before hippies dirtied up our streets.

I think it's likely that Tom Cruise is crazier than he seems to be. After all, he has professional PR people smoothing things over for him.

Demographic profiling turns into bias when it loses its foundation in reality.

I've often wondered if oceans are included in paradisaical glory. I mean, removing the oceans is the best way I can think of to provide the needed real estate for the population I think might be involved.
